In Memoriam: Mark B. Salvador AKA Coolwaterworks

Mark B. Salvador

Mark described himself in his Twitter account Coolwaterworks as a traveler, writer, and photographer, but, he added, not necessarily in that order.

It’s with sadness to learn from AC and Nortehanon of his passing on Dec. 19. It was so sudden and totally unexpected. His last twit was on Nov. 18 about a boy reported missing as a result of the super typhoon that hit the Philippines recently.

I didn’t know him personally, but through the power of the social media, we got connected in a way. I became one of the followers of his blog, travelandsnaps.com, that went offline on Dec 8. Fortunately, his Flickr account Coolwaterworks is still around to showcase his talent and humanity.

As a fellow blogger D’ Fisher wrote:

Coolwaterworks is a careful, refreshing writer to read, seems always mindful of the difference in usage between a colon and a semicolon, between a chicken baticolon and Calle Colon. Dive through to his every entry and you sense a man who knows well, or perhaps a signatory, to the subject-verb agreement of 1898. If there are grammatical slips, I like to harbor those against some hurried time, like toothbrush left behind from the packed items out of haste to catch the last submarine to Spratlys…

Perfection is the field of science and no doubt being an engineer himself, is shaped by this field. If those high-selling fishball vendors are also learning the science of concocting sauces of different flavors, likewise with Coolwaterworks. He blogs. He works. He travels. He makes shots. He writes. He prays. With the consciousness of a man of science, most likely mindful that one neutron in aberration could lead to a different material configuration.

Today I’m reluctantly removing his link from the list of my favorite blogs. He would be missed.

He might not be world-famous, but he was special to those who had known him in this life.

Rest in peace, my brother.

    Goosebumps. 😦

Like I said to Miss N, I only have a handful of blogging “friends” and Mark is one of them. Years passed by and I lost touch with most of them, probably because I chose to be a little “private”, but Mark remained.

He introduced me to World Vision, shared a passion to support Pens of Hope and other charitable groups. He inspired me to be humble, to share my blessings and to be grateful for what I have.

Mark is a very good man. He is one sensible and smart guy. He is talented yet humility remained to be his favorite word.

I may not know him personally, but we always communicated abt WV stuff. We were even connected on Facebook.

I was looking forward to meeting him personally as I know he had plans of visiting Singapore. It’s just sad that it will only stay as a dream for me — to rub elbows with one of a kind “celebrity” like him.

    He will be missed.

      ac:

one of the famous lines in the movie, serendipity, was that the ancient greeks didn’t have an obituary when a man died. they only asked if he had passion. no doubt about it, mark had passion.
