this is a photo of a family of geese eagerly waiting for handouts from passers-by. i took it while walking around the waters of lake bled in slovenia.

lake bled is one of the most picturesque places in europe. its unique charms and gentle climate have attracted the aristocratic elite as well as visitors from all over the world.

in the middle of the lake, there’s an island. in the old days, the ancient slavs went there to worship ziva, the goddess of love and fertility. it could well be the main reason why it has become a popular wedding destination. it’s expected that the groom be physically fit. no silly, it has nothing to do with what’s expected on their honeymoon. rather, it has to do with meeting the traditional requirement of being able to carry his bride up 99 steps to the church.

as many couples have elected to get married here, they see the geese as a good omen. who wouldn’t? it’s been said that geese mate for life.
